Samaritan Ministries - Case Study

Learn how Pragmint delivered code, introduced quality coding practices, and improved software architecture.

Samaritan Ministries is an organization that takes a faith-based approach to healthcare, distinct from traditional insurance. Emphasizing Christian values, they offer a community-driven solution where members support each other’s medical needs through prayer, encouragement, and financial support.

The Challenge

Samaritan Ministries had a mission-critical React and C# project that needed experienced team leaders to guide projects toward success. They also wanted to upskill their development team to improve delivery capabilities. To solve this challenge, Samaritan Ministries partnered with Pragmint.

The Transformation

Pragmint worked within Samaritan Ministries’s team to contribute to and guide software development. Pragmint shared coding practices and principles to improve the team’s delivery process.

In addition, Pragmint worked alongside the team to:

  1. Improve front-end delivery by sharing knowledge on React app development and creating applications in a way that’s generally consistent across projects.
  2. Clarify decision-making roles and feedback channels by clarifying how and by whom certain categories of decisions should be made.
  3. Facilitate the use of proactive failure notifications to automatically alert the entire team when anomalies occur.
  4. Shift to incremental releases to hit the desired timelines and teach the pros and cons of a top-down vs. bottom-up approach.

The Results and Impact

The team at Samaritan Ministries made it easy for Pragmint to provide value. They were open to new perspectives and remained vocal, sharing their thoughts and feedback during the process. This helped enable strong personal relationship development among team members.

As a result, Pragmint was able to help the organization by

  • Building an improvement plan to solve the highest-priority areas based on research-backed DORA Capabilities
  • Upskilling the development team’s React skills
  • Increasing deployment speed, frequency, and agility
  • Working through Test Driven Development with the team
  • Accelerating new team member onboarding

Feedback During the Engagement

“Just wanna say that the sessions with you guys have been seriously paying off. I went back to my React Training videos on Udemy to the beginning and was able to fly by sections where before I had to watch like 6 times to barely understand them. It’s all thanks to pairing with you two [Pragmint coaches].” -Matthew, Software Developer

“Shout out to Michael Tabb [Pragmint coach]! He’s always positive, ready to solve, create documentation, and guides the team to finding hidden treasures in our discussions. He’s also pretty great to work with too.” -Heidi, Software Developer

“I was blown away by the depth of knowledge that they [Pragmint] were able to build about our teams, stakeholders, and tech.” -Brad, Team Lead
